This book (and series) has a certain amount of reality in it because things don’t unfold how you expect them to.

Though blessed with some incredible talents he still has to fight for everything he achieves. Rothfuss creates an intriguing storyline where anything can happen. The book has everything a fantasy reader could want: “magic,” myths, an imperfect hero, love, bards, fighting, but most importantly it transports you to another world every time you open its’ pages. I came across this book on accident but can’t express how glad I am that I did. I was actively seeking a new series to dig my teeth into. After finishing series like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Inheritance Cycle, The Sword of Truth, and Wheel of Time etc. A high-action story written with a poet’s hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard. The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature. Told in Kvothe’s own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen. So odd.(The Kingkiller Chronicle #1) by Patrick Rothfuss For some reason the name popped in my head after finishing Lightning Tree. No idea why, it's been literally two decades since I've read them.

PS It's the first time anything KKC related ever made me think of the Xanth series for some reason. These two things behave differently because they are profoundly, fundamentally not the same. This has nothing to do with temperament or timing. Our people and theirs are as different as water and alcohol. I also enjoyed the frequent reminders that Fae are not human as well, they made me think of this quote from Wise Man's Fear Absolutely loved the humor, my laugh hasn't properly boomed in a long time, and this hit the spot. I feel like the Bast in the books was riddled with worry and anxiety from the get go given everything with the Chronicler and the scrael encounter right off the bat. I really enjoyed getting a glimpse at Basts' Fae side, the wild side we don't really get to see in the books. Made note of a few interesting insights relating to the books, but man have I not belly laughed like that in awhile.
